Okay…I’m just another weak-willed seeker of approval – there I’ve said it, i admit it, I plead guilty and throw myself on the mercy of the court. Having now confessed to my deeply flawed character I will now say that I am flattered and thrilled in the night to have a fellow purveyor of sarcasm bestow upon me the coveted Versatile Blogger Award, or as we “versatile bloggers” call it in our secret meetings in that room over there – the VBA. My fellow blogger Dee, also known as Miss Demure Restraint (who the rules say I must mention – but would anyway) has seen fit to lay this on me out of sheer pity for the fool no doubt. Of course I, being a bear of very little brain, can not figure out how to put that VBA bile-green thingee symbol into this post, but what’s new? I have the technical skills of a parsnip. I am now supposed to annoint 15 other blogs with this curse…and then reveal seven things about myself (i can’t wait to get to that part) so, and it is a minor miracle that, after much research as to how, I am able to create these links, in no particular order, here are my VBA nominees: Words And Other Things, k8edid, lisahgolden, Averil Dean, Ashley Jillian, Lila Bell, Sparks in Shadow, Young American Wisdom, Notes From Africa, An Embarrassment of Freedom, Finding Me In France, The Wild Pomegranate, Fivej, Words Fall From My Eyes, Brainrants, Creature With The Atom Brain, and The Mainland, and Memoirs of an Evil Stepmom…and yoyodyne populsions systems, and tinkerbelle86 …and joem18b… ….and the girl in the hat…and yoyodyne…Yes, I know that it’s now up to 23, but who’s counting?
Now, the good part. The part that at least I’ve been waiting for – the seven things I’m supposed to reveal about myself:
1. I don’t like borscht.
2. I think animals are the real angels.
3. I don’t really love a parade.
4. I am deeply suspicious of people who don’t like cats.
5. If I had to choose I would hope my mind goes before my body. (’cause what’ll I care)
6. I’m addicted to being silly.
7. My favorite quote is; When you want to fool the world, tell the truth.
I hope you’ve all not been sickened too much by this slight departure from my usual blather. This blog will now return to business as usual. Continue…

Sorry to spam you – I don’t mean to. But I’m just going through your nominees. When I clicked Notes from Africa I got your ‘oops’ page. You must be technically clever. I’d never know how to do that.
But THEN – then I saw you had me listed too. Oh Tony, why didn’t you tell me you did such a kindly turn? I find out by accident! Thank you so much, I’m honoured. I accept. And I will change the rules. We have to name 33 bloggers (because that’s my favourite number) and 10 sexually focussed confessions. Ha ha ha! “I’m just jokin’ with ya America”, as Eminem would say.

I’ve got time to cruise tonight, Tony. Now I’m going to check out who you nominated. I am interested in anything you recommend.
A very gracious speech of thanks …. congrats!

Have you had really good borsch?
I thought I didn’t like liver and brussel sprouts, but it turns out, done right, these things can be tasty.
But I don’t like sushi, so maybe, never mind.

First, thanks for taking the time to not only read my blog, but also for the nomination. I am honored (obsequious purple and clairvoyant). Being Half-A-Hebe does allow one to purvey all kinds of rude (read: fucking funny) jokes, stories and assorted love songs written by serial killers on death row.
Your bio is fabulous and it’s clear I’ll need to read Royal Game. Enjoyed your list and completely agree with the cat answer.
we also have music in common, as I’m a pianist, vocalist and songwriter. Here are a few of the tunes that made me famous over the years: ‘God Hates Reno so Get Back to Your Keno’ ‘I’m Bi-Polar in a Single Pole World’ -explicit lyrics- and of course ‘I Love you My Deranged Stalking Psychofuck Ex-Husband.’
The last one really only got air play on college radio stations.
Once again thank you for the nomination, but mostly for the wonderful words you’ve put to virtual paper and your music. It’s the YoYo-Dyne Blogroll for you!

…I really loved the whole thing about getting a book while in prison( and the description of that time is so gripping) but if it had been me i wouldn’t have a clue about chess…just like crochet or knitting patterns to me…huh?…..the chess game is like the strategies of war, advancing, taking over, retreat, start again…
I think i may go and find a nice chess set and book for my son for Christmas…he won’t let me buy clothes for him anymore. “maybe” he can teach me some chess…..
i loved the way he made chess pieces from his bread crusts and used the pattern of the blanket as his chess board but was so obsessed he didn’t need a board as he played in his mind, strengthening his brain, playing both sides until he snapped…..
Wonderful to find this writer.

Tony, you can drop me a prompt or a line anytime at knitterlywit@gmail.com — I like how that site’s template doesn’t have sidebars, but it leaves only the bottom of the page for extra info. Maybe I’ll add the email address to my About post. Thanks in advance for the prompt!

Cats are independent, loving and usually very sweet and pick out a special person to adore. I have two sibling cats, originally barn cats, and they are the most well known celebrities in my village. I love them too.
Fun to see your soft side as I’ve grown to admire your intimidating satire even if I read it sometimes with my fingers half shielding my eyes.
Royal Game has just arrived from Ottawa library…ha, that’s about 8 hours drive from here!
Thanks for including me in your list Tony! I will look up the other blogs soon. I have to go to the library now!

ur quite welcome. as to that drive, i suppose it’ll seem like 8 hrs eh? i told u Liz, i’m a real softie, but a clear-eyed observer of humankind which makes me a somewhat harsh critic. thankfully i’ve a well-developed sense of humour with which to couch my observations in. I want to hear your thoughts on The Royal Game, whatever they are – ok? thanks for the comment. continue…

…just read the story the Royal Game but of course not the entire book…..really enjoyed the challenge of reading an excellent writer….my thoughts about it ….well, several images spring to mind, the mechanical, mindless character (almost a Frankenstein), Czentovic, elevated and celebrated…well, it went on too long for him and with too much suffering for others..so that is an image for a very, very, very bad guy….(I can’t even bring myself to type his name)…and the other character, Dr. B.,… just came out of the blue… sensitive, smart, secretive, discrete……brings to mind the artist, the intelligent, the careful protector of old revered ways, relgion etc…..driven mad by his treatment by his oppressors but also by his own mind trying to make some sense out the entire situation, trying to cope, survive, but now hopelessly adrift…. which is of course the whole horrible, ghastly, business of war, persecution, loss, the inhumanity of it all…..the final snap…. which leads to the author’s and his wife planning their own suicide…foreshadowed, tragic, inevitable…
…this is just my thoughts at the moment…no doubt it will continue to burn into my soul and I’ll figure some more out (such as the role of the kindly doctor, nurse…..trying to deal with his trauma, brainwashing etc?)…..the O’Connor character and the chess game watchers?… maybe representing a mesh of different outsiders involved and baffled by the whole confrontation….the oblivion of the chess game symbol itself……, thanks for the great book and more to enjoy tomorrow….,goodnight, Liz

Liz, thanks for letting me know your thoughts here. i’m so glad you’re enjoying this great, almost forgotten, work…and getting so much from it. it is a masterwork by a great author. i trust u enjoyed the description of b’s time in prison, the solitude, the deprivation, his joy at finally being let into the library, secreting a book from the it, the pains he took to carefully hide it, and then his initial despair upon discovering that it is merely a book of chess problems, and not the literary companionship of a human’s thoughts and ideas he so longed for…and then, what he made of this stroke of fate. what a book. continue…
