They’re coming for our Medicare
Our right to choose – so best beware
They’re coming for our social net
They want whatever they can get
Wisconsin’s our first battleground
This creep Scott Walker must go down
The money will come pouring in
From Super PAC’s to save his skin
They want to kill our worker’s rights
And at each other’s throats in fights
And while we’re all thus occupied
They’ll mug us then skin us alive
They’ve no compunctions – not a one
They’ll bleed us dry and when they’re done
They’ll bleed our children for their own
No thought that we are flesh and bone
The only thought they entertain
Is there is plunder to attain
From off the backs of those who’ve not
To buy each limo, jet, and yacht
From out the mouths of children who
Need food, and schools, and doctors too
From old and weak, and brown, and black
And white, too saddled to fight back
And while they pillage all in sight
They search their bibles for the right
For passages that they can twist
Justifying all of this
That’s the front men, weak-willed scum
Who take the backroom money from
The Kochs and others of their ilk
Who smile while stealing baby’s milk
Who do not care that people spend
A lifetime praying for the end
To hardships they would not endure
Except for those who want them poor
Except for those whose raison d’etre
Is to keep us serfs in want and petri-
Fied and filled with fear forever
Of Devil, God, or man – whatever
These people take and never give
Live large but don’t let others live
Have wealth from sea to shining sea
And still want our “security”
Still want our tattered “safety net”
With the bullshit line that it’s the “threat”
Of Socialism hear them shout
This reason we must do without
Democracy? Almost a joke
A fairy tale gone up in smoke
A shell game we’d best figure out
Or we are lost – there is no doubt
So understand here what’s at stake
And wake up for our children’s sake
They have our money, and they’re free
And we? We are their peasantry

A couple of comments, really. I don’t subscribe to the “Religion at the Root of all our woes” school. I do think, however, that people with a perverse view like to go looking for a supporting clause in there somewhere (looking for a loop-hole like WC ! ) to give their nonsense some credence. And, secondly, it seems to me that democracy is dying when the amount of money thrown at an election, in both our countries, is probably a deciding factor.

I came long ago to realize politics is proof positive: When given the constant choice of the lesser of two evils, one must realize all one knows is evil.
Love this.

“For all the Marbles” should be “they’ve lost their marbles” ! My parents live in Wisconsin. For months they worried about what seemed llike the inevitable take-over of Scott Walker…..telling me of his rhetoric and insane iideas and threats, the mess he made was all laid out in his campaign “promises”.
So many foolishly jumped on the bandwagon because they blinded wanted to believe in “change” , any change, good or bad not listening to details. Then once elected, and he actually followed through, all his supporters finally saw what everyone else was trying to warn against….much too late, of course.
The country needs to look at WI as an example of “be careful what you wish for” !

A lot of the politicians are doing the bidding for the Kochs and others, and could care less about the common man. The time has come to take money out of politics, and get back to common decency, instead of them talking like rabid pit bulls.
Tony, you do a wonderful job, and please keep up the good fight.

As always to the point. My fave this time:
Except for those whose raison d’etre
Is to keep us serfs in want and petri-
Fied and filled with fear forever

Not JUST the laugh at how many have to Google raison d’etre. I receive Medicare and it is Horrendous. Is it better than no insurance at all? I’m not sure. At least ‘ObamaCare’ as the cretins call it, does not FORCE the elderly or those on disability (raises hand in class) to pay $100.00 a month from our payments.
Oh wait. didn’t we already put that money in from working our asses off for years?
OR, make a $100.00 deductible at the beginning of every year, on top of the co-pay/deductible. Oh damn I forgot what the paperwork euphemism is.
Allow me to put it simply: If you are dependent on Medicare for insurance.. you’re fucked. If you haven’t declared bankruptcy you will.
The co-pays for doctor visits and prescriptions and lack of income for the ‘required’ medicare payments will place you there,
The current system allows our parents to eat dog food, and my generation (just turned 50) the luxury of cat food -more protein-.
Let the Republicans in? I’ll be on the streets in 10 days instead of 60 days. Long live the American dream of owning your own home (several for me), starting and running a successful business (10 years) and working your way through college.
Not that I’m bitter. Just that I’m not a ‘gentleman ‘C’ average’ student with a trust fund. And pissed.

i feel you Rachael…i mean that in the most sincere way and not some jokey shit. the money must be eliminated from the process or we’re lost. it was the R’s tho’ who held O’s healthcare plan hostage, watered it down, and destroyed the “public option”, or however O misnamed it – should’ve been “medicare for all” or some such thing…and you’re right in saying that our choice, sadly as it stands, is between the lesser of the two evils…but as you say Obama and the dems are by far the lesser. if we only weren’t so hung up on “looks” and scared silly by that word “socialism” we might have had a Bernie Sanders or a Dennis Kucinich… or someone like that able to actually be president…but i’m willing to ride Obama in hopes he’ll have a Dem congress to work with because i still believe he wants to do the right thing. maybe i’m a sap but…
Anyway, thanks as always for the sharp, witty, acid, and righteous comment. i appreciate it when it comes from someone with brain power and the ability to think critically – someone like you. continue…

Tony, you have a true gift. Your words fit perfectly together like yin and yang. Every part of this is so poetically graceful yet terrifyingly accurate. But the closing section says it all… “So understand here what’s at stake / And wake up for our children’s sake / They have our money, and they’re free / And we? We are their peasantry”. I do hope more people wake up and become active in fighting the greed and corruption growing within our government and society.
