The beautiful bee is growing extinct
And as it goes so goes our food
The bee and our food’s inextricably linked
One day there’ll be naught to be chewed
The crops are no longer rotated in clover
The flowers bees feed on are now poison-filled
As bees sip the pesticides their lives are over
And as they die our food chain is killed
But the pesticide lobby – the Alliance for Food
(As Newspeak this name qualifies)
Promotes pesticides as concerns are pooh-poohed
And the bee colony grows weak and dies
And our USDA is so in the pocket
Of Monsanto, ConAgra et al
That whatever’s proposed pro-food safety they block it
And profit’s the whole rationale
And the poor can’t afford to eat food that is pure
And they must eat to just stay alive
But the food they ingest is poisoned for sure
By what’s killing the bees in their hive.
While the rich eat organic – poor eat frankenfood
And the Alliance for Food’s making hay
Their plate’s piled with cabbage while our food’s lab brewed
And these chemicals we eat like filet
Cause the cancers that eat us away
And the bees die a little each day
The sweet bees die a little each day.

Tony: have seen several documentaries, as well as news stories recently. Actually over the past two years. Find it a tragedy, and am not surprised in the least that you would pick up on it.
Many thanks for sharing. Especially in your wonderfully artistic and beautiful way.
Be well my friend.

This was beautiful ! We have a small hive of fat honey bees that live by us and we’ve named them “henry” (long story) and the plight of the bees has become a concern in our house….you did an amazing job using the bee as a metaphor for what’s happening to our fellow man, specifically those in need . We’re poisoning everything !
(Someone suggested I unfollow then refollow blogs not showing up in my “Reader”, I haven’t been getting your posts, hoping it works…)

Wow… beautiful, yet sadly, portrayed the sorrow in a world we are quickly destroying. Most people just do not realize the importance of bees and many would probably be happy to see them go – not realizing that would be the beginning of the end of man and all species.
How ironic that the purest of foods (non-processed, organic) costs more than processed food. It is horrible that the law of supply and demand dictates that the natural food is more rare, thus more costly.

OMG, what had you think of this?? I would never have thought of something like this, but it DOES make sense that as they eat our pesticides, so is the poisoning & death. This is awful Tony. I’d really never thought of it.

Same attitude in UK and Europe – I wrote this review a few months ago of a BBC program on this subject. Not as succinct as your poetical piece though!
There is an Avaaz petition ‘Save the Bees’ in respect of Bayer if any of your readers are interested.

This one really got to me, Tony. I’m so glad you wrote about this. The more there is out there for people to find, the better. It amazes me when someone says, ‘they’re just bees – what’s the big deal?’ So much information at our fingertips, yet common sense seems to be in short supply …
In my house, Monsanto is a dirty word. Their hypocritical commercials from a little while back, about family farmers, got me so mad I couldn’t see straight. That’s why I included them in “The Good, the Bad, The Ugly and the WTF” my Twilight Zone-y story about frankenfood on Sparks In Shadow.
I wish more of us ‘got it.’
