I am writing this because in this upcoming election I believe that winning – and ridding ourselves of Donald Trump – is all that matters, and I believe that Joe Biden gives us our best chance to win while Bernie Sanders, who I admire, gives us our best chance to lose.
If I were running Vice-President Joe Biden’s campaign for President I would advise him to go to Stacey Abrams immediately and ask her if she would agree to be the Vice-President candidate on their ticket. (She has already said she “would be honored” to be the vice presidential candidate on the 2020 Democratic ticket.) He should then immediately announce this, and as well as a list of his other possibilities for a “dream” cabinet.
This list could include Kamala Harris or Adam Schiff (AG), Mitt Romney (Commerce), Andrew Yang (head of the Council of Economic Advisors), John Kerry (Sec of State), Jay Inslee (EPA) and Pete Buttigieg or Seth Moulton (Veteran’s Affairs) to name a few. Aside from these possible choices there is a wealth of commendable Democrats to pick and choose from to be in his dream cabinet and Biden should mention them all as possible choices. They include; Deval Patrick, Tom Steyer, Tulsi Gabbard, Beto O’Rourke, John Delaney, Eric Swallwel,
Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Cory Booker, Michael Bennet, and Amy Klobuchar, as commendable and eminently qualified as they are for cabinet positions, all must stay in the Senate. Biden must ask them to do this for the country in order for us to get anything done. And he must explain this decision, and extol their willingness to do this for the country, to the electorate. The same is true for all the current Democrats in the Senate. Biden must stress to the electorate the importance of their support for every Democratic member of the Senate. He must stress that we must take back the Senate in order to reverse all the damage Trump and the Republicans will have done in these past 4 years. He must explain this clearly to the electorate while urging them repeatedly to give the country – and themselves – a Democratic Senate. In doing this he will be demonstrating leadership even as he outlines his plans.
Biden and Abrams should then immediately go out into the country and hold rallies. First to Pennsylvania and hold a series of rallies there to speak about switching to green fracking. This process would not cause people to lose their jobs or despoil the environment, and would address the fears that cost the Democratic Party the vote in that important state. They should then hold rallies in the Rust belt, and other swing states, stressing the number and types of jobs specific to that state which would be created by appropriating funds to repair that state’s infrastructure.
It is imperative that we be pro-active in this election. We MUST do these kinds of things in order to counteract the forces arrayed against us in this election. The forces we are fighting are voter suppression, gerrymandering, Fox TV news, the Electoral College, and Russian meddling. So we must act forcefully and decisively.
Again, Biden and Abrams should hark back to FDR and stress their plans for repairing the infrastructure of our country which would, at the same time, create some 13 million jobs over the course of 5 years. They must run on jobs, healthcare, and the environment. They must ignore Trump and concentrate on putting forth to the electorate their own agenda for the country.
This should be the plan for whoever the Democratic Presidential nominee is. But, I believe that it should be Joe Biden, a moderate, who has the best chance of beating Donald Trump in the November election which will ultimately be decided by the vote of the 10% of the independent voters. The sooner the Democratic party realizes this and puts this kind of a plan in motion the better.
If you are reading this, and you agree that there is some merit in this plan, and you know anyone in the Biden campaign – please get this to them. Thank you.

Oh this is a good plan! Please help get this to someone in the Biden campaign if you can.
Thoughtful and sensible. Thanks for your ideas on this Tony.

I agree completely. This election is likely to be decided in states where Biden has a better chance of beating Trump than Bernie does: states like Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and perhaps even South Carolina. All the idealism and enthusiasm of Bernie’s supporters isn’t going to trump the deal-breaker of “Socialist” in most “purple” states.

Any Democrat can win as long as every Democrat votes for the nominee. You don’t get a choice at the polls — unless you think that asshole Trump is an alternative to the Democrat on the ballot. The legislative process — a House and Senate in Democratic control — will shape all of the policies put forward by the Democratic president; he or she won’t be a dictator like Trump.

i respectfully disagree. i would like to think that what you say is true – but any Democrat can not win. I will say it again; of the two front-runners Biden gives us the best chance of winning, Bernie, because of all the reasons I stated, gives us the best chance of losing. thanks VS. continue…

What makes you such an expert in predicting the future? Are you saying droves of Democrats will stay home if Bernie is the candidate? Or vote for Trump? That doesn’t make sense.

i have stated my case. it is merely my suggestion for a way to get out in front of this race. Trump must be defeated and I believe (as many do) that Bernie, who i admire, unfortunately for all the reasons i outlined, can not win…and Biden is our best chance of ridding us of Trump. Assuming any Democratic nominee can win despite the Republican voter suppression tactics, their gerrymandering, their purge of the voter rolls, the Electoral College and finally Russia, and the actual vote really counts then this election will be won by the 10% of independents in the middle. I believe they would rather have a moderate who will work with both sides of the aisle. this is my view of the situation. if you disagree so be it.

P.S. VS, i am saying they will vote…but Biden has a better chance of winning with those Independents and Bernie has a better chance of losing with them. And why take the chance? continue…

VS, let me put it another way. The people in the middle (independents) might have more reasons NOT to vote for Sanders than they might have for Biden. In my reading of this election – and this electorate – whereas Biden has the possibility of winning in a landslide, Sanders has the possibility of losing a very close election. continue…
