I wish I were for everyone, but much like tripe, epoisses, uni, anchovies, and octopus – all of which I love – I’m afraid I am an acquired taste. I deal in Satire, I fairly drip with Sarcasm, I like my Humor black, my Opinions are strongly held, my commentary positively reeks of my working class roots, and it’s all related to The Human Condition, and The Body Politic. My stuff is often times funny – but caustically so (with serious undertones), and sometimes way serious (with black comedy overtones)… but always striving to be entertaining and informative.   2. I had to look up epoisses, now I want four. Still, nothing can dim the scandalous romance I’ve had with Shropshire Blue for 16 years. I left extra sharp cheddar for him, it was a big to-do. None of them realize I was seeing a port wine cheddar on the side the whole time. To tell the truth, extra sharp and I are still very much in love, I woke up with him just the other day. We had breakfast together.

      • Stichelton sounds like a possible summer romance. How does the flavor compare to my old flame, Stilton?

        You know, here in Oregon is a brand of blue so famous that people rush the cheese counter when it’s in season. Rogue River Blue Special Reserve is like a cloud on the tongue. It’s so creamy, it melts like butter in your mouth and it’s alarmingly mild, sweet, tangy, and blue all at once.

        It’s just another good reason to become wealthy. A wheel will set you back around $300.

      • prolly the best reasons to be wealthy are food, travel, health and helping others – not necessarily in that order. Stichelton is about $40 a lb. i hesitate to guess what a wheel would cost. but Rogue River Blue Special Reserve sounds yummy as well. thanx. continue…

    As I am all the things you are and believe all the things you do, I truly en-
    joy your website and postings on Favebook. I had no idea that the website was written by you until today.
    As I have known you for years, I knew you were a brilliant performer, but the depth of your intellect was a bit of a surprise. Considering we were always in a bar when we talked all those years ago, and usually drinking and you know, whatever, I guess I didn’t pay enough attention. Wonderful surprise, terrific writing.   8. I was right! When I click on your profile in the notification section on my blog, baying at the moon comes up. I just clicked “follow” from your reply before so I didn’t see the old site come up. WP does have a ghost in the machine. I hope they can fix the bad link! I haven’t had this problem with other blogs so I think the link needs to be repaired or deleted. Or it may just be an error with my blog and yours. Sorry, it was beyond my control! 🙂

  17. Mr. Powers, today was the second time that I commented on your site. It was also the second time that I revealed that I hold very different views from you on these issues that you discuss here. In fact, I suspect that there couldn’t exist a more contrasting political viewpoint from yours than mine. Again, I only suspect this; I don’t know it to be true.

    I believe that I’ve been respectful in my comments (although today I did get a little rattled before I regathered myself), but your kindness has really been nothing if not completely disarming. Thanks.

    If what I’ve already said about you isn’t a good enough reason for me to follow your blog, then I’ll add that I love your writing style. In fact, I think it’s rather brilliant.

  23. I must admit, I’m fairly new to the talent of satyr–but I’m thankful I finally understand it. I can truly appreciate Stephen Colbert and South Park (which, before, I thought were vulgar, but now that I understand the sarcasm coating the truth, I think are fantastic examples). I don’t know how to write well in satyr, so I usually stick to informative and honest (i.e. my articles and short essays), but I admire those who can get the same message across in a humorous way. I think more people are attracted to humor than to seriousness, anyway.

    Keep writing!

    THE INSPIRATION
    Mid October Katerina very generously awarded me the One lovely blog award. I was honoured, sincerely, but it seemed too much work to accept it (sorry!). BUT THEN, October 30 Phil awarded me the Versatile blog award. Again I was chuffed – it really is lovely to be thought of like this. I then thought, maybe I can accept both awards in one post, and highlight some of my favourite bloggers in the meantime.

    THE IDEA
    I wish to do a video which opens with links to both Katerina’s page and Phil’s page AND a quote of 1-2 (no more) paragraphs of one of your blogs, read by me – and then telling the viewer that to see the end of that post, visit the blog!

    The video would then move on to me doing a reading of 1-2 paras (no more) of each and every other one of you others, as I wish to nominate you all for these awards too – as you others would be my nominees.

    IT MUST BE UNDERSTOOD THAT ACCEPTING NOMINATION IS NOT ESSENTIAL – IT IS ENTIRELY OPTIONAL (which is why I didn’t think I could be bothered with the first nomination – oh the rules on acceptance!). You accept it or don’t; it’s up to you – in the very least, it’s nice to be mentioned.

    THE REQUEST
    I request your permission to read 1-2 paras of your work on a video, and then finish the read with a link to your page, and announcing you as a nominee. If you don’t like this idea at all, you are so very free to say no thanks.

    I require your consent because to me words are quiet precious. You bring them to mind and arrange them in your style and you begift whomever you wish to, and it just may be that you don’t want your words going too far.

  30. It’s a marvel that you have read so many of my very simple stories, maybe you aren’t so tough as I first thought. I have read your satires and humour work and had to go deep into your bio to figure it all out and where you are coming from. Listened to music, watched videos (your current one is wonderful and the older one Heist , now that I get it and really listened to the lyrics is so darn good…that Sax guy is fantastic, Now Cur, ( you are Cur to me),as you portrayed yourself asa borderline maniac, wise to what is “going on” in the world…just so darn good and fantastic. Other reactions too but I’ll leave it there. Midnight Trampoline was so well done too, like a movie, but made me laugh, Another odd connection there but I digress! You do strange things! If you see John Goodman soon tell him it was priceless seeing him arrive to serenade the poor tired gigalo and his client. For what it’s worth you have opened my eyes and renewed my creative energy to as you say…continue….

    • Music to my ears. I thank you so very much for such high praise. Your thoughts are certainly not tame. They spring from a life experience, and I think they are quite meaningful. We just choose to write about different things, and in a different style. Thanks again for paying attention. I write for thoughtful, intelligent people…clearly you are one of them…and we are outnumbered. I don’t wish to see it become too much worse, so my efforts have long gone towards shining a light on those of us who give humanity a bad name. I choose humor (mostly) to do this, albeit a humor, I admit, born out of anger.. (actually, sometimes I crack myself up at how funny mean I can be) Anyway, keep on writing…it’s good for the vibrations, and the soul. Continue…
