I fully understand how terrible the situation in Afghanistan is for most of the women and girls, and for many of the men who are now there. All of whom now fear for their lives.

However, I can not shake the nagging thought that all of it, any political situation anywhere in the world, here, Russia, China, anywhere, means nothing when placed in the context of what is now taking place because of what we have done to our climate.

Yes, any humanitarian crisis is a terrible thing, but as of this day forward we are all in a humanitarian crisis. A crisis borne of our greed and our insane unwillingness to believe the dire warnings from science that we have heard since 1965. Now, it is pretty much too late. There is still a slim chance that climate change can be reversed. Very slim. I have to think, judging by the rampant ignorance now pervasive here, and all over the industrialized world, that humans are incapable of acting in a way that can accomplish this huge task. We are awash in a crisis of sheer stupidity. A stupidity that, for some unfathomable reason, has us believing that nature and the planet can withstand the onslaught of its rape by humanity forever.

Yes you are a monster but that’s a separate issue. One thing has nothing to do with the other. Both are devastating but no need to compare them or the media coverage which is as you say wrong in not covering climate issues. But I’m glad that there is coverage of the poor state of affairs in Afghanistan. Heart wrenching.

Yes, the plight of Afghanistan is horrific. That said, our Conservative government has dragged the chain on doing anything about climate change. They don’t have a large margin of seats in government and an election is due no later than May 2022. A recent poll shows that voters in all 151 of our electorates say dealing with climate change is first or second on their list of concerns. Bring on the election.

it is so patently obvious that if we don’t deal with climate change Afghanistan – and us – won’t matter a fig. thanks Peggy…stay well and continue…

You’re not a monster. You’re a realist. And there aren’t enough realists doing what must be done. Hell, half the population won’t even do the obvious to stop a pandemic. They certainly won’t act to save the world.

No, you are not ! ! Like you, I am more concerned on climate change and pollution, and what humanity has done to our planet. Who cares about Afghanistan? Whatever floats their boats…. it’s their way of life. I have become a monster , too. And I feel there’s nothing I can do.

I pity my future children…. they’ll have to carry the burden. The government should help financially those who want to have solar energy in their homes. We had a solar heater ( just for hot water ) installed… it cost us $ 6500. We don’t use our ac even those it’s almost 3 digits here in Ca, and definitely, no heater in winter, we just layer up….. what else can we do ???
