YOU MAY NOT LIKE THIS ONE, BUT…

For the life of me I am puzzled by much of the media’s discussions about the July 12th attempt on Donald Trump’s life. I keep hearing things like, “the motive is unclear.” I also hear, “this is not who we are.” All of it delivered in somber tones. Are the people uttering this drivel suffering from some kind of collective amnesia? Have they forgotten who Donald Trump is? Forgotten the assassinations of Dr. King? JFK? Medgar Evers? Bobby Kennedy? All these Republican politicians who are now all of a sudden shocked that this attempt was made, that it was even possible, have conveniently forgotten that they are the ones who steadfastly refuse to take guns off the streets. One Republican who was there with his grandson tells us that the boy asked him why anyone would “want to kill President Trump,” and said he told the boy something to the effect that, “he had no idea why.” All of it has me questioning if these people are still searching for the motive as to why on earth Hitler’s own military tried to kill him. 

And then there are the TV interviews of the people who were at that rally. My, oh my, my, my. They are just besides themselves at how such a terrible thing could happen. They speak of all the “heroes” who were there, and who got shot. Heroes? Really? These people were there for the explicit reason of cheering on a vicious race-baiting would-be dictator as he spewed forth another torrent of bald-faced lies and hate-filled cruelty. And they also can’t for the life of them understand how such a thing could happen. It would appear that all the bright talking heads can’t figure out a reason, or reasons, for such an act either. 

Have we all gone brain-dead? I am not condoning the act, but I am not at all shocked by it. And, I am also not puzzled by the “motive” behind it.

You know what? I’m gonna say it. If there was any poetic justice in this, the kid on the roof would have had a bump stock. (Another thing the Reptilian Party, who has been keeping us at each other’s throats for decades, refuse to take off the streets.) 

As one of my astute commenters so perfectly put it, “you reap what you sow.”
