The Ballad of Rush Limbaugh’s Nightmare or: I Dreamt Something So Terrible I Had to Take Some More Oxycontin…A Whole Lot More

Rush Limbaugh Cartoon by Ian D. Marsden of mar...

Image via Wikipedia

Rush Limbaugh had a horrid fright

A dream that kept him up all night

That FDR came back that day

And found the jobs Bush threw away

He dreamt there was a new New Deal

So many jobs – it was too real

New roads and rails and schools and this

An educated populace

Educate these people? Damn!

Then they’ll figure out our scam

And shit – if things improve – than what?

Less drugs? Less crime?  that’s not so hot

He dreamt that pot was legalized

Thus prisons closed or way downsized

The money saved then used for schools

Oh fuck – this really was not cool

He dreamt we got the money out

Of politics and that no doubt

Was the most absolute last straw

No Superpacs! – it dropped his jaw

We’d repealed Citizen’s United

This gave old Rush such a terrible fright it

Made him bolt straight upright

Holy crap – what a terrible night!

He told Norquist of this great scare

A level playing field? Not fair!

They’d always hated FDR

The New Deal was their pet bete noir

Neocons blanched when they all heard

Build roads and rails and schools – absurd

This new New Deal will screw our scene

Next thing you know they’ll vote “go green”

Demand we get off oil’s teat

A policy we can’t permit

At stake is way way too much wealth

To care about this planet’s health

This money must stay in our drawers

P.S. our biggest earner’s wars

Oh Rush whatever else you do

Please say your nightmare won’t come true.

Please tell us there’s no new New Deal

How good that news will make us feel

Please tell us we can keep the bucks

We’ve taken from the working schmucks

Please tell us they will never learn

That money is our sole concern

That we don’t care what harm we do

That their dreams too will ne’er come true

  1. Hi, Tony! Got your message. Go to your “Dashboard”. Find “Settings” and you’ll see the SOPA Protest option. Pick that and then you can chose if you want to go “black” with a message and the corner banner, or just the corner banner. It also gives you the option to change the text on the “Black” page – and to see what it looks like. WordPress will activate it for us automatically. Just remember to chose your option and hit “Save”.

“At stake is way way too much wealth

To care about this planet’s health”,,..

    It sickens the soul.

HuffPo needs to PICK YOU UP. NOW.

  4. When I read Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot I literally laughed aloud.
Your piece made me smile, but in a sad way because it is so true, and so succinct.
Tony I dearly hope you keep your ballads coming. You write ‘the clean line’ as Bukowski and Fante called it.
    Can’t get enough.
Each is better than the last. Many thanks!

  5. El Guapo is right on again, lets take each verse, write on sticky notes and discretely placed around the offices of our “fearless leaders”.

  6. bete noir – my word for the day…

I love your rhyme, Tony. You’re such a one-off. I’m not full belt on US politics, but when I read your stuff I get a very clear picture. The cartoon is terrific, and it surprises me wikepedia has CURRENT cartoons.

‘too much wealth to care about this planet’s health’. I have never, ever comprehended anyone who thinks their OWN life, existence, themSELVES, more important than welfare of a many. Unreal.

And I can do six! !!!!!!

    🙂 N’n.

  7. It’s like a checklist of what govt should be doing.
Oh,and I didn’t realize Rush needed an excuse for getting high (though when he does it, he just has to apologize and it’s ok.)

    • You got it El. Don’t think that’s what Jesus meant when he said confess your sins and all will be forgiven. So much for amends… Now hand me those pills so I can get through the coming year of political lies, farce and bullshit. The PEOPLE should be given a prescription to deal with these demigods and politicians. The latter should be required daily 12 step meetings. just a though -wicked smile-.

      • That would be fantastic, Rachael. Sadly, isn’t the first step of a 12 step admitting that you have a problem?
It’ll never happen with that lot!
